Nepal, a land locked country bordering Tibet on the north and India on east, west, and south, is a land of immense scenic beauty and attraction. Situated in the southern slopes of the Himalayas, Nepal covers an area of 147,181 sq.km. Due to its geographical variation, Nepal is divided into three main geographical regions: Himalayan, Hilly and Terai.

Himalayan Region:
This region comprises about 15% of the total land area. The altitude of this region is 5,000m. The region encompasses eight of the 14 highest summits of the world crossing over an altitude of 8,000m including Everest, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and so on.

Hilly Region:
This regions accounts for about 68% of the total land area. The region lies between the Himalayan and Terai regions soaring up to 4,877m.

Terai Region:
The low-land that occupies about 17% of the total land area of the country. Its elevation ranges from 70 to 200m with subtropical climate. It extends from Nepal-India border in the south to the base of Siwalik Hills in the north.

Language:
Although Nepali is the national language, people of different cultural diversity live here and hundreds of local dialects are spoken by various ethnic groups. English is widely used as second language in Nepal.

People and Religion:
The population of Nepal is 26 million, made up of 40 different races and tribes. Nepalese people are mainly divided into two distinct groups, Indo-Aryans and Mongoloids. Nepal is the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the founder of one of the world's great religions. Hindus and Buddhists live together in harmony. Muslims, Christians, and animists also co-exist in harmony.

There are temples, monasteries, stone and copper carvings all over the land carved by a history that reflects the thoughts, beauty, aspiration and feelings of the Nepalese people.
